Cultural Revolution Color Ceramics - Peasant and Red Army
Part of early ignition for Cultural Revolution movement was the introduction of newly revised and politically motivated Peking Opera.
In this Cultural Revolution Color Ceramics, it depicts a Red Army Soldier and a Peasant who has risen to the top to become a Soldier. The Red Army Solider is seen wearing a red arm band that states “Red Army” and holding a knife. The Peasant is holding a shotgun. A common scene from the Cultural Revolution Peking Opera, this scene describes the rise of lower class people to take charge in the 20’s and 30’s and the conversion of peasants to soldiers. During Cultural Revolution, the three elite group of citizens were factory workers, peasants and farmers and finally the Liberation Army Soldiers. It was during those chaotic 10 plus years other types of citizens were put down and in some cases sent down to learn from the farmers.
