Cultural Revolution Color Ceramics - Mao, Madam Mao and PLA

During Cultural Revolution, Mao encouraged the Red Guards to revolt against the existing local government systems. Students stopped classes and turned themselves into Red Guards and took trains to Beijing, known as “Chuan-Lian”. During this movement, Mao and his supporters hosted several interviews across the TianAnMen Square. Total of 8 million Red Guards gathered up to meet with Mao in TianAnMen Square, with the first march being August 18, 1966, and the last march in 1967. In this Cultural Revolution color ceramics, it depicts Mao and Lin Biao (Mao’s formal right hand man) standing in the back of a Chinese Red Flag brand car, with two People’s Liberation Army generals, serving as Mao’s body guards, driving the vehicle, while Mao and Madam Mao waved to the millions of Red Guards, crossing Chang An Jian (Chang An Street). Chang An Street, later known as the Boulevard where Chinese army tanks went across during the Tiananmen students demonstration in 1969. This large sculpture has been used most recently as footage to a New York Times article, featured in December 2003. Size: 15.5" wide by 9 deep by 12" tall. Weight: 17 Pounds
