Cultural Revolution round shaped porcelain candy jar

This round candy jar is a souvenir item made by the Jian-Xi Province Revolutionary Committee, a division of Jian-xi army district, in 1968. The Revolutionary Committee was the equivalent of the provincial government during the Cultural Revolution. Our sources who experienced the Cultural Revolution have told us that during the Cultural Revolution the officials of the provincial government were either arrested or sent to Revolution School to get reeducated by the Red Guards. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Committee was formed to replace the original provincial government.

This candy jar was produced to celebrate the formation of Jian-Xi Province's Revolutionary Committee and distributed only to the members of the Revolutionary Committee. A rare item of the period, this round candy jar cover has imprints of many famous slogans for the period. In addition, each of the four faces on this candy jar has a different design. We are delighted to find that this candy jar is in mint condition, almost as good as new.

By 1971 majority of items depicting Mao and Lin Biao together or quoting Lin Biao were confiscated because of Lin's fall from power and his death while allegedly fleeing to Russia. The circumstances of Lin's fall and his death are still in dispute, but he was declared a traitor and removed from memory, erased from official photographs and histories. By 1978, the government issued a law requiring all citizens to turn in their Cultural Revolution items to designated central recycling centers, and most of these items were destroyed. Therefore, the genuine articles available for sale are few and far between.

We are delighted to find that this candy jar is in mint condition, almost as good as new.
