Background
Over the years
working in Beijing, my father has accumulated a vast collection of
Chinese classical furniture pieces and objects made of a nearly extinct,
precious tropical hardwood called zitan. His love for Chinese classical
furniture, especially furniture made of "zitan", which was used exclusively
by the imperial court in ancient China, has prompted him to sell a
portion of his collection and use the proceeds to fund a non-profit
organization in the San Francisco bay area, a small Chinese classical
furniture museum. The intent of this museum is to preserve a part
of China's cultural heritage by exhibiting authentic Chinese classical
furniture made with precious tropical hardwoods such as zitan, while
raising environmental awareness about the zitan forests of Southeast
Asia that have been lost to over-harvesting. |
